Dressed-Up Shorts

For most of us, when the word "dressy" comes to mind, we think of, well, dresses. However, dresses are not the only things that can be worn for special occasions. Shorts, however casual they may seem, can easily be dressed up. I know that seems a little intimidating for some, so here are two ways to accomplish this look:

The high waisted shorts are from Target and cost $25. The sandals, also from Target, cost $15. The shirt was a gift from American Eagle, costing roughly $20. I bought the statement necklace from Francesca's for $25. I would classify this style as dressy-casual. The t-shirt and sandals definitely give the look a more casual vibe and a summery feel. If you wanted to transition this outfit into fall, just add tights, boots, and a jacket!

As you can see, this look is a lot dressier than the first (heels and button down shirts tend to do that). The high waisted metallic shorts are from Forever 21, $25. The white shirt was purchased at Old Navy for $30. The wedges were $35 from Target. The necklace and bracelet are both from Charming Charlie, $10 each. I can't wait to wear this outfit on New Year's Eve (I happen to share this holiday with my birthday, if anyone is in the mood to buy me gifts). However, the look isn't too shiny, so you can were it for other occasions. I love wearing heels with shorts; the combination lengthens an slims legs, which is great for the shorter population (people such as myself).

Three Ways to Wear Chambray

Much like a denim jacket, a chambray shirt is one of the most versatile items you can have in your closet. Here are three ways to wear a chambray shirt ( Target $23) in three seasons: summer, spring, fall/winter. ( I combined fall and winter because, being from Florida, winter temperatures usually don't fall below 40 or 50 degrees. Sorry snowbirds!) Here's the summer look:

The shorts were $25 from The Loft. The belt: $13 from Target. A brown belt is definitely a staple that should be in everyone's closet, especially a braided one. I bought the sandals at JC Penny's for $12 and the bracelet was $10 from Charming Charlie.

If you haven't noticed yet, I love bright oranges and corals for spring and summer. Those are the dominant colors of this spring skirt I bought on sale at Target for $13 (the belt came with the skirt). The white bracelet is also from Target ($8). These shoes cost $25 from Old Navy.

This fall/winter outfit is a little on the preppy side. However, the chambray shirt peeking out from the sweater gives it an edgier feel. The white jeggings cost $35 at American Eagle Outfitters. The eggplant sweater was $25 from The Loft and the silver flats were $20 from Old Navy.

Black Maxi Dress

Finally my very first post!! (If I could, I would put lots of happy face and celebration emoticons here) It's not perfect... the grass needs mowing and my posing skills could use some work, but we can't have everything. So, I wore this outfit to an interview to work at Forever 21. It looks very Forever 21-esque, don't you think? Unfortunately, you must be 18 or older to work there, and I am not. I like that this outfit is pretty versatile. You can wear it casually or to a more formal event. The jean jacket lightens up the long, black dress so I don't look like a member of the Adams Family.

The denim jacket was $45 from American Eagle Outfitters. Here's some advice: if you want to splurge a little on any item, it should be a jean jacket. It goes with everything, and you'll get your money's worth out of it. The necklace was about $8 and the ring was $4, both from Forever 21. Finally, the dress... are you ready for this? I made it!!! Yes, I think that statement deserved three exclamation marks.  I got the instructions from cottonandcurls.com. About This Blog

Hello, and welcome to the Savvy Closet. Wow, I sound like I'm hosting a talk show or something. Anyway, let me tell you a little about myself. My name is Savanna (hence the savvy closet... see what I did there?). I'm seventeen and in my senior year in high school. Also, I live in Florida. The purpose of this blog is to basically to give fashion and beauty advice, as well as post pictures of outfits, hairstyles, beauty products, etc... that I love. Something else you should know about me is that, well, I'm super cheap. As in, I usually don't spend more that $30 on a piece of clothing. Therefore, I always tell the price of whatever I'm wearing. I want to show the world how easy it is to look cute without completely going broke. Some of my favorite stores are Target, Gap, Old Navy, American Eagle, Francesca's, The Loft, H&M, and Forever 21. I'll get my first post up soon, and I hope everyone enjoys this blog!
